Questions

The ones we get on every call.

If you have never hired an electrician you have no reason to know how any of this works. Nobody here is going to make you feel stupid for asking.

Before you call

Will you come out for one outlet?

Yes. A lot of electricians will not, and that is exactly why we do. However big or small the job, it gets the same attention: it does not matter whether it is putting in an outlet or wiring a business.

Do you do emergency calls?

Yes. Something hot, burning, sparking, or a house with no power is an emergency, and it goes ahead of the schedule. Say so when you call and you will get a straight answer on how soon somebody can be there. Emergency service carries its own call-out charge, which we tell you on the phone before anybody drives.

Do I need to be home?

We prefer it. It means we can show you what we found rather than describe it over the phone afterwards, and you can answer the questions that come up once a wall is open. If that is genuinely impossible, say so when you book and we will work something out.

Who answers when I call?

The office. Say what is going on and you will get a straight answer on whether it needs somebody out today or whether it can wait.

Do you do commercial work too?

Yes. Ball field lighting, multi-unit residential, restaurant and retail build-outs, and tribal project work. Redstar is a Native-owned business and has been TERO certified since 2024.

How far do you travel?

Roughly fifty miles around Tahlequah, out through Muskogee, Wagoner and Adair County. Further for larger projects. For a single outlet two hours away, we will be straight with you that the drive costs more than the work.

What is going on

Where does the power company stop and the electrician start?

This is the one that causes the most confusion. Broadly: the utility owns the line up to the point where it connects to your house, and everything from there in is yours, which means the meter base, the panel, and every circuit behind it. So a tree taking your line down at the pole is a call to the utility. A meter base pulled off the wall, or a problem in the panel, is the electrician. Call either way and we will tell you which one you have, even when it turns out to be theirs.

Why does my breaker keep tripping?

A breaker that trips is doing its job, so the real question is what it is protecting you from. There are four usual causes: an overloaded circuit, an appliance on it that is overheating, a short circuit, or a ground fault. The first is an inconvenience. The last two are not, which is why a breaker that trips more than once is worth having looked at rather than reset again.

Working with us

How soon can you get here?

Normally somewhere between a week and a month out, depending on what is already on the schedule that week. Emergencies are different, so say so when you call and we will work out what is possible. You will get told honestly rather than booked into a slot that was never going to hold.

How do you charge?

Residential work is time and materials. Service calls carry a call-out charge that covers getting somebody to you and diagnosing the problem. Call and the office will tell you exactly what it is for your job before anybody gets in a truck.

Do you warranty your work?

Yes. Redstar warrants its work for a year. If something we installed is not doing what it should inside that, it gets put right.

Will you try to sell me work I did not ask for?

No. Redstar bids the job you called about. If we find something else that genuinely needs attention we will show you and explain it, and then it is your decision. Nobody is going to arrive for an outlet and leave with a quote for the whole house.

Do I need a permit?

Most cities and counties require a permit for electrical work. It depends on your jurisdiction and on the job, so ask when you call and we will tell you what your particular one needs.

Still not sure what you are looking at?

Describe it in plain words. We will tell you whether it needs somebody out there today or whether it can wait.
